23 Days and Counting!

The countdown is on... I'll be leaving for Bangkok in 23 days and I'm very excited! It will be my first experience in Asia and I'm very much looking forward to it! I received my Visa this week, and I've even started putting things aside for packing later. I'm sure it will be quite the learning curve for me! Student teaching abroad will be interesting!

I'll be in another country where the culture is very different (along with the climate!). Additionally, it will be my first experience teaching in a city school, and it's a big city!! The classes are supposed to be upwards of 30 students, and I've only had classes of 13 or 14! I'm interested to see how I will do! I'm also worried about the types of materials that I should be bringing along with me. The school teaches our curriculum, but I don't know if I'm going to need things like colored paper, or glue sticks and scissors.

I've been doing research and talking with many people to find out what it was like and where I should go. I'm hoping to see some things within Bangkok as well as outside of Bangkok. We will be arriving late on Sunday, and we have Orientation all week. The following weekend, we are supposed to be spending at a beach called Hua Hin. I'm so excited, it's crazy! I've found out that I will be teaching in a Grade 1 class. Fortunately, the schools have a pools, so I will be allowed to go swimming after hours if I choose! I'm quite excited about that! We have individual apartments, that are basically a bedroom and a bathroom. It's too hot to cook indoors so there is no kitchen, and there is no living room - not that it would be necessary since I'm sure I won't be spending a lot of time in my apartment anyhow! There will be far too much to see and do while I'm there!

After a course in ICT, I've decided that blogging would be an excellent way to document my experiences in Thailand, and it allows for others the opportunity to hear about it too. I love to share experiences and hopefully learn that much more about Thailand, teaching, metacognition, and blogging!! :)
